Visit to GJ Gardner House

Posted by on January 21, 2012

Today, my Mother, Uncle (who was visiting from Sydney) and I went to one of the houses that GJ Gardner had nearly finished. Unfortunately, I did not think about taking photos to post on here.

I had previously been into the GJ Gardner Display home in Sale. While I was impressed with the house it was kind of a waste of time for me as most of the things in the house were not standard but premium upgrades. The house we had a look through today was nearly completed all they need to do to finish the house is the retaining walls.

The house is basically all standard inclusions (Which is what I would be having). I feel that I gained a lot more after visiting this home than what I did from the display home. I liked the look of the standard inclusions better than the upgraded premium inclusions. Some of the inclusions that I did not realise are standard are:

  • Soft close drawers
  • Solid Timber used throughout the house (No MDF)

Overall, the house was a little bigger than the one I am building but I was glad to see the standard inclusions and find out that a lot of the things other builders class as upgrades GJ Gardner do as standard such as, colorbond roof, rotating roof vents and soft close drawers to name a few.

Later in the afternoon, one of my other uncles came by and I showed him my plan and he really liked the plan. He suggested that I ask about including the alfresco area, that I am planing to build, in the roof line. I will ask about this the next time I am in GJ Gardner and compare the cost of a colorbond patio to having it built into the roof line. He also suggested getting provision put in for a split system air-conditioner if I am planning on putting one in at a later date. So I will ask about that too.
